Hello! I am Kenneth from 3A. This year we need to make a big decision---- choosing our NSS subjects. So I hope that everybody should try their very best. For example: Do more revision, listen to the teacher, find out your career interest etc. Hope every one of us can get the subject that we are really interested in, and will not have any regret when we get older. Be a star of our class and our school. Try to get a prize in the assembly---- be a shining star!

Learning how to learn by Mr. Cheng
Just as Rachel said, this was the first week of full lessons so everyone was exhausted by Friday afternoon. Mind you, teachers were probably also glad to hear the afternoon bell ring on Friday afternoon which signalled the end to what has been a very long and tiring week!
In general, I've been quite happy with 3A's performance in English class. I can already see some classmates who are being very brave and trying to face their weaknesses, and in fact, minor improvements are already visible! However, some classmates may still be adapting to the way I work / teach. I'm not just an English teacher here to teach you new words or grammar. I want to teach you how to learn by yourselves. You all need to find the best way for you to learn and apply this to all the every subject (not just English!). Often, you forget the things that a teachers teaches you but the skills you learn remain with you forever. So I urge you all to find how you learn best and start learning how to learn!
On Friday, we also had the honour of having a world-famous best-selling author and speaker Mr. Andrew Matthews in school to promote his latest book "Happiness in hard times". I was the MC for this event, and luckily I practised my lines in front of 3A beforehand. Otherwise, I don't think I would have done a very good job. My message? Preparation is everything! Speaking English well does not make me automatically good at presentations or being an MC. It's all about practice! Keep this in mind...

Our first whole-day school week by Rachel Chan
Hello! I am Rachel from 3A. This is my first time to write a blog. It is my pleasure that I can participate in the class's blog writing this year. I will try my best to share every moments I have with my 3A classmates with all of the visitors.
Memorable moments in this week
This week was the first week we had our whole-day lessons. To be honest, we felt a bit tired after taking six lessons in a day. However, I think my classmates and I will adapt it soon.
In this Friday's English lessons, Mr. Cheng taught us some tips on learning vocabularies easier. Then, we had a big challenge, that was tried to memorize a longest English word in the world with 45 letters-- pneumonoultramicroscopicsilicovolcanoconiosis. In fact, it is a name of lung diseases. Although this word is quite useless for us and there was only one student in our class spelt the word correctly, we have learnt the skills on memorizing this word. I think that lesson was meaningful and interesting.
This year, the 3A classroom is much bigger than the other classrooms. The reason is that the previous use of this classroom was a music room! We all feel very happy on having our lessons in such big classroom.

Welcome to 3A! By Mr. Alan Cheng
Welcome to 3A! This is Mr. Alan Cheng, one of 3A’s class teachers along with Ms. Dawn Ho. I’ve set up this blog because I would like a place for us to keep our happy memories in S3. I hope it can also act as a communication bridge between teachers and students as well as school and home. Both the students’ and I will take turns to update the blog. Therefore, I warmly invite parents to regularly visit this blog to keep updated about what’s happening in the students’ school life.
Highlights of the week:
So, we’ve been back to school for a week and a half now, and I’ve seen all 3A students at least twice a day. I’m starting to recognise faces and have learnt some (but not all) the names of the students.
Of course for me, I should write about the English lessons. I believe that these lessons have been an interesting learning experience for both the students and I, as we are slowly learning about how each other works. As I’ve told the class already, my biggest goal this year is to improve the speaking ability of all students, in particular, help them to acquire a more native-like English accent. It is going to be tough, but I hope that both students and parents can trust me and believe that I can achieve it. The first step to that will be to keep the English-only environment in English lessons. The phrase I’ve said the most this week is “English! English please! I still hear Chinese!!” I hope this situation will slowly improve over time as the students get used to speaking to each other in English in order to push each other to improve their spoken English.
As you may know, I also teach 3A’s life-education. In the first lesson, I did a self-introduction to the students and told them many things about me that even some of my colleagues may not know! I hope this can develop our trust in each other, which is a vital part of life-education. Further, I mentioned some of my key values and passions in life in the hope that the students can develop their own set of core values and passions. I hope the students found this lesson both interesting and stimulating.
Happiest moment:
Although 3A and I have only known each other for about a week, but I believe that we have already started to develop good rapport. I have been relatively happy being both the class and English teacher of 3A. I have also been really impressed with 3A’s girls’ exemplary performance in class so far. Yet, my happiest moment actually came from the boys. On one particular day, the class got 7 in the classroom log (I set a minimum expectation of 8 for 3A), and the boys approached me and admitted to misbehaving before I asked them to explain the situation. It seems like a very simple thing, but I saw it as a big act of honesty and a willingness to admit mistakes from the boys. As I told them, the important thing is not what the mistake was, but instead how we act after the mistake has happened. I hope we all learnt a lesson from this mistake!
