Feedback from the Performance Slip and Parents' Evening by Mr. Cheng

The parent's evening on Friday was a generally positive one. It was really good chatting to some of your parents and I was so impressed by their English (you guys should really learn from your parents!) However, the main talking point was of course about the performance slips issued by the school on this day.

Most of you should have seen your performance slip by now, and I think you would agree with me that there is certainly plenty of room for improvement. The school wanted to use these performance slips as a "wake-up call" for you all because it is much better to have this "surprise" now, rather than waiting until February when you actually get your interim-report cards. Now is the perfect time to look at yourselves and see where you need to do more work.

I'm sure all of you don't need reminding about the importance of this year's exam scores. I told you in September that you were all here because of your English results only! The problem is that the NSS subject selection is based on the average scores. Yet, you are still in the best position out of all classes to select the subjects you want to do. Your English level is definitely an advantage which you should make better use of.

You need to start to show us you care about your studies. Doing and handing in homework is the most basic responsibility of a student and you have to make sure this is done on-time every time. Like I said before, where possible, try to do homework on the day it's set so that you are not always chasing after deadlines. You control the deadlines, not the other way around!

We need to create a classroom environment where everyone is eager to study and give to the class. We really have no space for those who are going to just sit here, not contribute, or even worse destroy our class atmosphere. I know you all want to do well too. Your NSS subject selection will affect your whole life, and right now your futures are still in your own hands for you to shape. But it takes self-discipline to ensure that it doesn't suddenly slip out of your control. Keep reminding yourself this, find your motivation to learn and let's work hard together!

  1. I hope all of us can listen what Mr.Cheng had said, we will feel regretful later if we don't work hard now. So, don't let yourself feel regretful, I hope all of us can enter the subject that we like.

  2. I agree what Sharon had said. When I saw my result, I really felt sorry for my parents and teachers as I didn't work hard in the past three months. And tomorrow we're going to have our science UT, please do as best as we can and so we don't need to make the people that care us to feel Disappointed.

Well, Before I get my Performance Slip, I have already know how's my results, especially my maths and science. I was a bit regretful about not working hardly in the past few months... But I really don't ahve enough time for my revision...

  5. When I received my performance slip,I realised my weaknesses, especially Mathematics which will affect my selection of NSS subjects. I know it is a problem, but I still fail even I have tried very hard. I am going to do more work and ask if in doubt until I succeed. There's still room for improvements,I will strive to learn and do the best since I really want to study my favourite NSS subjects and achieve my ideal without regret... If I don't work hard now, I will feel regretful. Let's work hard!
